Site Visits

As part of the 2023 Health and Humanitarian Logistics Conference site visits were offered to the following locations:

Site Visit 1: Kenya Red Cross Warehouse complex

The visitor group will have the opportunity to view the warehouse processes and operational work of KRCS, including how aid partners are using the facilities to support programmes, and how KRCS meet their in-country needs rather than outsourcing services. The visit will include the medical warehouse where attendees can see innovation in action with KRCS’ cost-effective conversion of a standard ISO container into a humidity controlled medical store.

Site Visit 2: E-Plus Emergency Ambulance Service

Participants will tour the emergency response operations room and attend a briefing on the sustainable business model used to run over 120 ambulances in Kenya – a model now also used in Tanzania and Gambia. Two types of ambulance will be on display, with paramedics briefing on the operational work of the vehicles.

Site Visit 3: ICRC Regional Medical Warehouse Complex - SITE VISIT FULLY BOOKED

Participants will be able to view the cold chain process from receipt to despatch of medical items, with a briefing from a pharmacist on how ICRC manages quality control for products both for in-country needs and those provided from Geneva. The briefing will also discuss challenges around the disposal and quarantine of items. Visitors will need to present a photo ID to gain entry to the facility.
